I miss written letters. I think they hold sentiment and value that email and text simply do not. But alas, time marches on and technology along with it, and it seems rather impractical to wait 3 or so days just to reach someone in the same area. Thus, in my own personal life, I’ve elected to write letters to my loved ones and send them digitally.
One may wonder what difference this makes; I may as well be sending a regular e-mail, yes? Well, I believe that by adopting the mindset of someone writing a physical letter, I think more carefully about my words and how they’ll be interpreted without my voice and facial expressions there to accent them. I also tend to write more deeply and carefully, often thinking of new perspectives while I write. I’m not suggesting that all digital communication should take this format, but I do think that the occasional letter can really benefit a relationship, no matter the type.
